What is GST?
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a comprehensive indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services in India. It replaced multiple cascading taxes such as VAT, service tax, excise duty, and others. GST is collected at every stage of the supply chain, but the final burden falls on the end consumer.

How to Calculate GST?
Adding GST (Exclusive): When the price does not include GST, use: GST Amount = Original Price × GST% ÷ 100. Total Price = Original Price + GST Amount.
Removing GST (Inclusive): When the price already includes GST, use: Original Price = Total Price ÷ (1 + GST%/100). GST Amount = Total Price − Original Price.
What is CGST, SGST and IGST?
GST is divided into three components. CGST (Central GST) goes to the central government. SGST (State GST) goes to the state government. Together they equal the total GST rate for intra-state transactions. IGST (Integrated GST) is applied on inter-state transactions and goes entirely to the central government, which then distributes it to the destination state.
Frequently Asked Questions
-

-
What are the GST slabs in India? ⌄India has four main GST slabs: 5% for essential goods like packaged food and medicines, 12% for standard goods like butter and mobile phones, 18% for most services and general goods, and 28% for luxury items like cars and tobacco.
-
What is the difference between inclusive and exclusive GST? ⌄Exclusive GST means the listed price does not include tax — GST is added on top to get the final price. Inclusive GST means the listed price already includes the GST component — you need to extract it to find the base price.

What is CGST and SGST? ⌄For intra-state (within same state) transactions, GST is split equally into CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST). For example, 18% GST = 9% CGST + 9% SGST. For inter-state transactions, IGST (18%) is charged instead.
